MANILA, Philippines – Film director Cathy Garcia-Molina has denounced accusation that she inserted the much-ballyhooed, “numerous sex scenes” in the upcoming film feature “Unofficially Yours” simply for profit.
“It’s never the intention of the film or any of us [the film’s cast and crew],” said she in a recent press conference.
Molina reiterated that the sex scenes, supposedly the most graphic ever in the careers of the movie’s stars John Lloyd Cruz and Angel Locsin, were done only in relation to the film’s script.
“Parte lang talaga ng kwento,” she emphasized. “We just want to show what’s true and what’s real.”
She went on to add that the sex scenes are as “intimate” only as far as they are “realistic” and “relatable.”
“Kasi ako naman kapag gumagawa ng pelikula, ang gusto ko laging ma-achieve dapat relatable. Ayaw na ayaw ko na may nagsasabi sa isang eksena na, ‘Hindi naman nangyayari ‘yan sa totoong buhay!’ ‘Yan ang ina-ayawan ko sa pelikula kaya lagi akong naka-base sa realidad, whether ikaw mismo ang naka-experience or sa kaibigan mo nangyari,” she said.
Her personal considerations aside, Molina said she is more concerned about the effect of such scenes on the duo’s fans, which she admits are mostly teenagers.
“Nilagay ko ‘yun hindi para sabihin sa young viewers na ‘eto ang gawin niyo.’ Nilagay ko ‘yun kasi ‘yun ang realidad. At the end of the movie, naniniwala pa rin ako dun’ sa regular type of relationship, ‘yung traditional kind na girlfriend-boyfriend,” she said.
As to how her actors reacted to the idea, Molina said: “Si Lloydy naman kasi, after ‘Amnesia Girl’ na pinaghubad ko siya, sabi niya, ‘Direk sagad na ‘to, sagad na.’ So dito sa ‘Unofficially Yours’ sabi niya, ‘Direk mas sinagad mo ako dito!’ Talagang walang natira sa kanya.”
Locsin, on the other hand, was quite nervous, she said.
“Si Angel talaga kinabahan. Namumula siya at grabe ang lamig-lamig ng kamay niya. Kasi first day of shooting love scene agad,” Molina related.
The director divulged that she shared the anxiety of her stars.
“Hirap na hirap kami kasi in reality, kapag nag-se-sex ka naman wala ka namang balot e, wala ka namang takip. But this is film and you want the audience to watch nang hindi naman sila na-o-offend,” she explained.
In the end, she assured moviegoers that the sex scenes they came up with are far from being insensitive or vulgar.
“Hindi mo kasi siya titignan as bastos. Parte lang talaga ng kwento. Rom-com talaga ‘yung genre kasi matapang na ‘yung kwento, so kapag sineryoso mo ‘yung treatment, baka ma-alienate naman ang viewers. So nilagyan namin ng comedy, to lighten up the feel of the movie,” she said.
