MANILA, Philippines – The pilot season of “The X Factor (U.S.)” is apparently the first and last for Filipino-American singer Nicole Scherzinger, following her confirmation that she will no longer be part of the judging panel of the talent show.
The former front woman of all-female group The Pussycat Dolls announced via Twitter on Jan. 31, “I wanted to let you know directly from me that it's true I won't be returning to The X Factor.”
The US version of the massively successful UK talent search, which kicked off September last year, saw Scherzinger judging contestants alongside show executive producer Simon Cowell, his dear pal Paula Abdul (who was his fellow judge on “American Idol”), and record producer L.A. Reid.
Scherzinger, who was originally tapped to be a presenter on “X Factor,” stepped in as judge following Cheryl Cole’s controversial removal from the roster.
Amid rumors that Scherzinger, as well as Abdul and show judge Steve Jones, left the show against their will, a source told E! Online that the “Right There” singer wanted to leave "X Factor" to “focus on her music career.” Cowell, the source added, has “given her his blessing.”
Scherzinger's hectic schedule relating to her appearances on the show seemingly took a toll on her music, the source also intimated.
“‘X Factor’ took a lot more of her time than she ever expected… She didn't have any time really to work on her music. She was doing ‘X Factor’ six days a week,” said the E! source.
Last month, Scherzinger hinted on her true priorities in an interview also with E! Online. Acknowledging the difficulties of being a judge, she said, "I'm not a judge first—I'm an artist first. I've been there. I know what it's like."
Scherzinger is gearing for a European tour that will commence this February, according to E!
“Looking forward to an exciting year ahead and making great music and more! I'm grateful for the love you always give me,” she tweeted.
In a statement published on the Daily Mail, Cowell thanked his ex-fellow judges as well as Jones, for being part of the “X Factor.”
“We had a lot of fun making the show together and importantly, we found some real talent and stars. You do develop friendships with the people you work with and Paula, in particular, is a very close friend and I expect to be working with her on another project in the near future.
“I'm sure all three are going to have massive success in what they do next, but now is the time to thank them all for everything they did last year,’” said Cowell.
The question still remains as to who will take over the spots vacated by Scherzinger, Abdul, and Jones. Cowell, however, has openly expressed his interest in getting award-winning singer Mariah Carey as judge, according to a Reuters report.

The two kapamilya stars decided to part ways November of last year to “fix personal issues” not only as a couple but also as individuals.
“Nagkahiwalay kami, nagkabalikan and now we’re doing perfectly fine,” John Lloyd briefly declared in his live interview on “The Buzz,” Jan. 29.
Prior, the actor revealed on Saturday’s “E-Live” that he and Shaina have gotten back together.
“Okay kami [ni Shaina]. Kami na ulit. Matagal-tagal na rin,” he said.
Describing their rekindled relationship, John Lloyd said that it’s “better than ever,” adding that he and Shaina plan a vacation soon.
“Kung papayagan kami. We’re planning this big trip kasama ‘yung family niya naman,” he added. During their first anniversary as a couple last June, John Lloyd and Shaina went on a month-long European trip.
JL’s Leading Ladies: Angel, Sarah
In the same “The Buzz” interview, John Lloyd talked about his upcoming film with his former “Imortal” leading lady Angel Locsin. In “Unofficially Yours,” the drama actor, who is used to moving audiences with his crying scenes, goes sexy for the first time.
John Lloyd did a number of daring scenes in the movie. “Parang experiment ang ginawa ko na rin sa sarili ko, because I wanted to portray a character na hindi naman kailangan porke’t kailangang maghubad sa isang eksena, kailangan ba lagi maganda ang makita, o perpekto [ang katawan] o parang hinulma [para maging sexy]. Feeling ko nga ako ang representative ng karamihan sa mga lalaki [na hindi kailangan maganda ang katawan],” he explained.
John Lloyd also described Angel’s sexiness “effortless.”
“Napaka-sexy, ‘di na kailangan ng pelikulang ito, kahit wala ang pelikulang ito, si Angel andun na, number one sexiest sa Pilipinas,” he said.
Speaking of another leading lady, host Boy Abunda asked John Lloyd about his former “A Very Special Love” and “You Changed My Life” partner Sarah Geronimo.
On “ASAP Rocks” earlier, Sarah was fondly calling John Lloyd “Bebe ko,” her term of endearment for John Lloyd’s character in their films. According to John Lloyd, he and Sarah might do a third movie this year.
Sarah is now romantically being linked to her “Catch Me… I’m In Love” and “Won’t Last A Day Without You” leading man Gerald Anderson.

MANILA, Philippines – Popular Korean group 2NE1 is back in the Philippines.
The girl group arrived in the Philippines before noon today. The purpose of their visit to the country is not known yet though some say it’s for vacation since it’s winter in Korea.
Early this morning, 2NE1 member Park Bom tweeted that they are now headed to the Philippines.
“We are now going to the Philippines,” she posted on Twitter along with a photo of fellow 2NE1 member Sandara Park.
Upon learning of the news, Filipino fans waited at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 to get a glimpse of the Korean pop group.
2NE1 arrived in the country at 11:27 AM via a Korean Air flight from Incheon International Airport.
Recently, Newsweek magazine featured 2NE1 as part of the emerging popularity of Korean hip-hop acts.
“While ‘K-pop’ has gained popularity as the catch-all term for a host of glossy boy and girl bands, 2NE1—with its signature tune, ‘Ugly’—represents K-hop, a budding movement that backs up its slick pop sheen with true R&B talent,” the magazine said in the article “Korean Hip-Hop: K-Hop Goes Global.”
It said K-hop is getting popular.
“Now K-hop is getting in on the act: Internet exposure helped boy band Big Bang win the World Wide Act award at the MTV Europe Music Awards last June, and MTV Iggy just crowned 2NE1 the Best New Band in the World,” the article said.
It added, “The ultimate validation for K-hop would be lifting Asian music out of its tacky stereotype and bringing it to the same level as Latin and European music on the global music scene. The early signs are promising: will.i.am has already begun working on tracks for 2NE1.”
On March 31, 2NE1 and Big Bang will perform at Springroove in Chiba, Japan. Also performing in the popular event are LMFAO and DJ David Guetta.

CAIRO (AP) — At least 40 Egyptians were killed Wednesday in violence following a soccer match in Port Said, when fans flooded the field seconds after a match against a rival team was over, Egypt's Health ministry said.
It was one of the worst incidents of sports violence in Egypt in decades.
A security official and a medic said fans of the home team, Al-Masry, swarmed the field after a rare 3-1 win against Al-Ahly, Egypt's top team. They threw stones, fireworks, and bottles at the fans and injured some players.
A medic at a morgue in Port Said, a city on the Mediterranean coast, said some of the dead were security officers. He was speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to reporters.
The causes of the deaths were not immediately known.
The ministry's statement about 40 dead was carried on state TV.
The players were later taken to the locker room for protection, Sayed Hamdi, a player told state TV.
Soon after the violence, a soccer game in the Cairo Stadium between the Al-Ismailiya and Zamalek teams was called off in mourning for the violence in Port Said.
State TV showed video of sections of the Cairo stadium on fire. The announcer said angry fans of the Zamalek protested the cancellation and set some sections of the stadium on fire.

GMA Network's upcoming primetime series, My Beloved, is already generating a whole lot of buzz and anticipation amongst viewers with weeks leading up to the much awaited premiere of the Kapuso drama series.
Last Monday (January 30), Dingdong Dantes and his My Beloved co-stars headed to the intersection of Buendia and Roxas Boulevard in Pasay City to shoot some scenes for the upcoming Telebabad offering. The production team had prepared for this particular scene as early as 5 in the morning where an empty bus was supposed to "fall off" the flyover and plunge into three cars passing underneath the flyover.
Motorists and bystanders had mistaken it for a real accident and the scenario caused some curiosity from travellers within the area. But in reality, the entire set up was just part of the pilot week episodes of My Beloved.
The entire production team of My Beloved would like to apologize to all commuters and motorists for any inconvenience caused by the taping of the program. They assured the public that all appropriate and necessary permits and clearances where secured from the city offices and departments.
My Beloved's Director Dominic Zapata likewise extends his apologies and assures everyone that the network is exerting all efforts to make the drama series at par with international standards. The mere passion that people in the TV industry bring already makes winners out of all its viewers."

MANILA, Philippines - Actress Angel Locsin explained that though she's comfortable with her "unofficial" relationship with football star Phil Younghusband, she's still dreaming that everything would be "official."
"At the end of the day gusto mo pa din na official. Mahirap kasi na hindi ka sure, pero mahirap din namang pilitin kung hindi pa naayon sa panahon," Locsin said in an interview during a press conference for her latest movie "Unofficially Yours" with John Lloyd Cruz as her leading man on Tuesday.
Locsin said that until now she's still unsure about the real status of her relationship with Younghusband but stressed that what is important is that they are both in love.
"May confusion inaamin ko naman 'yon lalo na kung tinatanong niyo ako kung kayo ba? Pero hindi ko po talaga alam. Basta ang alam ko lang ay may love, in love kami pareho," Locsin said.
She added: "Ang masasabi ko po ay yes nandoon ang love, pero kung ano ang label, yun po ang malaking question mark sa amin. Kasi hindi pa namin napag-uusapan ang lahat."
This coming February 14, Locsin and Younghusband will be celebrating their first Valentine together.
Last year, Younghusband made a bold move when he publicly asked Locsin for Valentine's date via Twitter.
Asked about their plans for Valentine's Day, Locsin replied: "Sa Valentine's Day kasama ko kayo, kaya wala pang lakad."
"Unofficially Yours" directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina will hit theaters nationwide this February 15.

Inarguably, if only for her guts, bravery and love for “danger,” Anne Curtis is immortal. She is “La Divina.” One of the most beautiful girls in this country, she is an intelligent actress with box-office powers, a natural host in and out of Showtime, a trusted product endorser — but a concert star, she was not and never was, for when the good Lord gave away musical talents to the multitude, Anne was busy counting her other blessings. But she loved to sing. She still does.
She was never shy to croon any song she would fancy anywhere she could — in her dressing room, in the hallways of ABS-CBN, in her TV guestings. Sounding tremendously better than a pretty, magical frog, she would sing her heart out, like she was Beyoncé. She would ululate without fear and care. As in anything she does, she would sing with bravado and heart.
At first it was funny until I started to enjoy watching and listening to her sing. Because she was always having a blast every time she would whack a song. I would call her my “concert queen.” So it didn’t come as a surprise when I heard that she was mounting an Araneta concert. I figured it was about time concert singers learn some tricks from someone who pulls everything out from the heart.
What a brave girl this Anne Curtis is. She is inspiring, empowering, proving to anyone who doubts himself that yes, dreams come true and you can make the impossible possible. All you need is to believe.
Anne Curtis filled the 17,000-seater Smart Araneta Coliseum with people who came in droves to watch her on stage in her first-ever concert billed Anne-bisyosa. Anne knows that her voice is no match to Sarah Geronimo’s or Charice’s. She is no regular singer, she said in her spiel. “Para sa mga non-singers diyan, this is for you.”
Overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from people who came to watch her concert, Anne was emotional as she went on stage to face the big crowd. “Walang pwedeng mag-sabotahe ng evening na ito. My goodness, hindi ko alam ang sasabihin ko pero dreams do really come true.”
In full support of Anne’s first big outing on live stage were her family, friends and her ABS-CBN family like younger sister Jasmine Curtis-Smith who had a number with her as well as Sam Milby, Derek Ramsay, Cristine Reyes, Rico Blanco, Vice Ganda, Luis Manzano and Sarah.
And here’s what they have to say about Anne and Anne-bisyosa:
Sarah — “She’s always been passionate about music. I’m always behind you.”
Vice Ganda — “Ang mga tao rito nagpunta hindi dahil gustong makita kung magiging maganda ba yong gagawin ni Anne. Nagpunta rito yong mga tao dahil alam nilang mahalaga ito kay Anne.
Derek — “Congratulations. I haven’t seen Araneta like that. It’s crazy.”
Luis — “Being proud of you is an understatement. Mahal na mahal ka namin. Mag-world tour ka, nandoon pa rin kami.”
KC Concepcion — “I’m really proud of Anne. I am really happy for her.”
Kris Aquino — “The last time na nakita ko na ganito kapuno, si Vice ang nag-co-concert. Bilib na bilib ako sa na-accomplish mo.”
Raymond Gutierrez — “This is such a great accomplishment. You know how much we love you.”
Anne’s boyfriend Erwan Heussaff also had a great part in the success of Anne’s Araneta outing. “He has been so supportive. He made T-shirts for everyone. Hinahayaan niya ako. Kasi stressed ako, talagang hinayaan niya ako. He said, go have a singing career.”
Anne announced that she will soon have a world tour billed No Other Concert that will see her performing all over the country and other parts of the globe.
Bravo Anne. You make dreams come true. Not just yours, but ours, too.
Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos is celebrating her 50th anniversary in showbiz in November. People close to the Star for All Seasons is leaving no stone unturned for the actress-governor’s 50th anniversary celebration. Among the activites lined up are a book launching and a Star Cinema movie, titled The Healing.
“Magkakaroon po ng book launch. Open po sa lahat kung sino man ang maki-celebrate. Dito sa movie industry kung saan ako lumaki at sa pinagkakautangan ko ng loob.”
Gov. Vi is also excited about her Star Cinema movie. “Tuluy-tuloy yong gagawin naming shooting. May aabangan silang suspense. I am excited to do one movie again with Kim Chiu. Kasama ko sila Pokwang and Janice de Belen. It is directed by Chito Roño.”
As regards her son Luis who is rumored to be toying with the idea of walking down the aisle with girlfriend Jennylyn Mercado, Gov. Vi had this to say, “Hindi ako magdedesisyon nun. Ayokong makialam.” She also said that Luis is mature enough to do things on his own. “Hindi ko ma-imagine pag andun na siya sa simbahan. Hahagulgol ba ako? Kung saan liligaya ang anak ko, dun ako.”
Doubly proud of her son, Gov. Vi revealed Luis will be hosting Deal or No Deal. “He is very serious with his job. I am here to support you. I will pray for you, I’m proud of you. I love you Lucky.”

When Sam Milby goes to New York anytime this week, he will be the special guest of Anna Maria Perez de Tagle, star of the Broadway musical Godspell (in which she gets to sing Day By Day, the musical’s most popular song), who will treat Sam to a dinner with, of course, Anna Maria’s mom Evelyn as chaperon.
It has been reported that Sam is taking a three-month (or longer) leave from local showbiz to pursue an acting career in the USA, a period much too short for him to prove his worth by maybe first attending auditions presumably in Hollywood.
“Anna Maria has reserved a ticket to Godspell exclusively for Sam,” reported Funfare’s Big Apple correspondent Edmund Silvestre.
Anna Maria has taken after her grandmother Sylvia La Torre who is so conservative that she was noted for her “no touch, no kiss” policy in her heyday when she was appearing in movies and TV shows. Anna Maria’s father is Sylvia’s son Artie Perez de Tagle.
“That’s why Anna Maria will be chaperoned by her mom to her dinner date with Sam,” explained Edmund, “even if Anna Maria is already of legal age at 21.”
Actually, Anna Maria’s mom has no reason to worry. Like Anna Maria, Sam is wholesome and, besides a gentleman, he’s harmless.
Unknown to many, Sam and Anna Maria are friends. They first met in the Big Apple two years ago when Sam was there for a Kapamilya show. Anna Maria is updated on Filipino stars because she watches shows on GMA Pinoy TV and TFC (The Filipino Channel). Since then, the two have been keeping in touch via Twitter.
For sure, Anna Maria will introduce Sam to her Godspell co-stars from whom he can get tips on how to go about and make it in the US, which is a real tough challenge considering the thousands of aspirants. Sam can even ask Anna Maria for some “connections,” you know.
“With Sam’s Amerasian charm and warmth,” assured Edmund, “the Godspell cast will surely fall under his spell. The cast will be delighted to find out that Sam is a popular actor in the Philippines who has appeared in several TV shows, concerts and movies. One of the dramas he starred in was Impostor which was a finalist at the recent International Emmy Awards.”
Asked about Sam’s chances of, well, getting noticed in Hollywood (or anywhere in the US), Anna Maria told Edmund, “I’ll always keep my fingers crossed for him. He’s very nice and I wish him the best because he deserves the best.”
Meanwhile, Anna Maria and the entire Godspell cast have never run out of celebrity well-wishers who catch the nightly show (and double the audience’s fun with their mere presence) at the Circle in the Square in New York City. The latest A-lister to see the critically-acclaimed show and greet the grateful cast backstage was the legendary Angela Lansbury, the five-time Tony winner who is herself a Broadway baby. She’s best known worldwide as mystery writer and amateur detective Jessica Fletcher in the highly-acclaimed and top-rated series Murder She Wrote which aired on CBS from 1984 to 1996.
Anna Maria said she and the whole cast were on Cloud 9 while exchanging pleasantries with the acting icon who is also the honorary chairman of the American Theater Wing, which created and sponsors the Tony Awards in theatrical arts.
“Everyone of us was in awe of her,” a thrilled Anna Maria was quoted by Edmund as saying. “Who wouldn’t be when everyone in Broadway dreams of achieving even a fraction of what she has accomplished as a stage actor. She’s very warm and sweet and very down-to-earth. No wonder she’s an icon.”
Edmund recalled that just two weeks ago, Anna Maria was also visited by close pal and former fellow Disney artist Nick Jonas, who is currently starring in the another Broadway blockbuster revival How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Nick took over from Glee star Darren Criss, who, as we all know by now, is half-Filipino (his mother is Cebuana). The handsome 19-year-old musician/actor, who is also part of the Jonas Brothers, came with his stunning girlfriend, Australia’s pop superstar Delta Goodrem who later tweeted Anna Maria, “You were amazing! the whole show was fantastic @bwaygodspell all that talent on one stage ha! see you soon!” Anna Maria replied, “@delta_goodrem Thank you! We’re thrilled, honored that you came to watch @BwayGodspell. We’re all watching @nickjonas in HTSIB! :) xoxo <3”
Last week, it was Anna Maria’s turn to throw her support behind Nick when he opened for How to Succeed at the nearby Hirshfeld Theater. Nick’s dad, popularly known in the industry as Papa Jonas, is Anna Maria’s manager and “second dad.”
Incidentally, did you know that the Godspell cast is going gaga over Filipino food, thanks to Anna Maria’s mom Evelyn? At times when Godspell has to stage two performances in one day, Evelyn makes it a point to cook Pinoy dishes so that Anna Maria and the cast won’t have to leave theater premises especially during winter.
Said Edmund, “Evelyn brings the home-made food to Circle in the Square which the cast (that includes Hunter Parrish, Telly Leung, Uzo Aduba, Nick Blaemire, Wallace Smith, Lindsay Mendez and the half-Pinoy George Salazar) would partake at Anna Maria’s dressing room. But what Evelyn didn’t expect was that they would all fall in love with her Adobo, Bistek (beef steak), Lumpiang Shanghai, Pancit, Sinigang and even her spaghetti Pinoy style.”
Evelyn is flattered no end.
“Hinahanap-hanap na nila,” she said, laughing. “Pinag-iisipan ko ngang ipagluto sila ng dinuguan. Titingnan ko kung makakain nila.”
