Potent mix of thespic come-ons in ‘Walang Hanggan’

Coco Martin and Julia Montes

-By Nestor U. Torre (Philippine Daily Inquirer)

THE first telecasts of the new soap, “Walang Hanggan,” attracted quite a lot of viewers, who were drawn to the debuting teleserye by its potent mix of come-ons, led by the pairing of two thespic icons, Susan Roces and Helen Gamboa (with Eddie Gutierrez thrown in for good measure) and the revival of the ’80s love team of Dawn Zulueta and Richard Gomez.

Their pairing in the “visually memorable” film, “Hanggang sa Dulo ng Walang Hanggan” (it was shot in ultra-scenic Batanes) has imbued their new series with resonances that add to its nostalgic cachet. Is the 2012 TV production measuring up to the standard set by its celebrated predecessor?

On point of memorably beautiful visuals, not quite. But, the dramatic tension established between the new show’s senior romantic leads hints at potent undercurrents that should keep drama fans interested—and watching the show on a regular basis.
Main focus

At the start, however, the main focus of the unfolding storytelling was on the romance between Dawn and Richard’s characters. Here, the show hits a visual snag, because the two actors are already in their 40s. We hoped that the storytelling would speed up so the visual awkwardness would pass, and the two leads could finally come into their own as mature characters—and performers.

After all, it was quickly established that Dawn’s character was deemed unworthy of Richard’s love by his mata-pobre mother (Helen), and that Dawn believed that he courted her just to win a bet!

The pain and hate that such vile actuations (whether real or imagined) have engendered run extremely deep and can haunt and weigh heavily down on the young characters played by Coco Martin and Julia Montes when they fall in love—so, we’re in for a long and strongly motivated spate of both high and low melodrama—“Walang Hanggan!”

To date, what we like most about the new series is its brisk unfolding. While the story it tells is multigenerational, we aren’t required to start at the very beginning, with the birth of the original grandparents(!), as some other drama series do.

To be sure, the story’s theme and plot premise, involving as they do the age-old “rich-poor” dichotomy, is by no means fresh and vital. But, our hope is that the experienced stars involved, especially Susan and Dawn, will come up with felt and vivid portrayals to make up for the slack.

As for Coco and Julia, who are being paired here for the first time, they’re both palaban performers, so our expectation is that their scenes won’t come off as merely simperingly sweet and routinely romantic.

Julia’s being a relative tyro adds to her thespic burden, because she has to keep up with her much more experienced co-stars—but, if she’s able to do that, her success will be especially significant and rewarding.
Finally, “Walang Hanggan” could also prove to be an unusually challenging assignment for Dawn and
Richard.

In making this comeback by way of the dramatic “sequel” to their celebrated co-starrer, they are obligated not just to revive the ardor of their original pairing, but also to take it further, into the more mature and complex realms of hate and vengeance. Let’s hope they’re up to it.
Postscript

The show’s succeeding telecasts have focused mostly on the Julia-Coco tandem, for the kilig value of their “young” love scenes. But, all that extended focus is turning out to be cloying, and the young actors’ limitations are showing—so, we hope that the Richard-Dawn subplot will be focused on again—pronto!

Adamson to go for UAAP softball championship

-By ABS-CBNnews.com

MANILA, Philippines – Adamson University Lady Falcons are expected to go for a sweep and the outright championship when it takes on University of the Philippines (UP) in UAAP Season 74 softball on Saturday.

The Lady Falcons, unbeaten in 9 matches, will take on the UP Lady Maroons, who are eager to play the spoiler’s role in the 11:30 a.m. match at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

The Lady Maroons are running second with a 7-2 record and have the potential to foil the Lady Falcons’ bid.

A title victory by Adamson would underscore its billing as the most dominant UAAP softball team in more than a decade.

Adamson has won 10 titles since the 1997-98 season, with UP bagging 2.

Far Eastern University (FEU) used to lord it over in UAAP softball with 21 titles to its credit.

The other softball matches pit University of the East (UE) against Ateneo at 7:30 a.m. and De La Salle University (DLSU) against University of Santo Tomas (UST) at 9:30 a.m.

MMDA to start implementing motorcycle lanes on EDSA Feb. 14

-By LBG, GMA News
Valentine's Day will be a red-letter day for motorcycle riders in Metro Manila, who are expected to benefit from motorcycle lanes along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA).

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said they will go easy on the EDSA motorcycle lanes at first, holding just a dry run in the first week.

In a news release, the MMDA said violators during the dry run will have to attend a 15-minute seminar, after which they get heart-shaped stickers bearing the MMDA logo and the phrases "Certified Motorcycle Riders" and "Disiplinado Ako (I am disciplined)."

MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said the 15-minute road safety seminars will be held in areas like Roxas Boulevard, Orense, White Plains, Timog, and Quezon Avenue.

The designated motorcycle lane shall be the fourth lane from the right sidewalk and shall run the length of EDSA from Monumento in Caloocan City to SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.

But the lanes will be "non-exclusive," meaning private vehicles may also use them.

"I am appealing to the private motorists using the motorcycle lanes to observe maximum tolerance for motorcycle riders to avoid any accident," Tolentino said.

The establishment of the motorcycle lanes at EDSA stemmed from Memorandum Circular 12-01 Series of 2012, which was approved by the Metro Manila Council last month.

Tolentino said the implementation of the motorcycle lanes is necessary to promote a more orderly flow of traffic along EDSA and reduce the number of fatal accidents involving motorcycles.

Deviating from motorcycle lanes

Motorcycle riders may deviate from the motorcycle lanes when making a turn or U-turn at authorized intersections and U-turn slots, in which case they are to gradually shift lanes not less than 200 meters away from the turning point, while making the appropriate signals.

The MMDA cited figures showing the number of motorcycles traversing EDSA daily was 6,559 for the northbound lane and 5,173 for the southbound lane.

Last year, the MMDA also implemented similar motorcycle lanes along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City and Macapagal Boulevard in Pasay and Parañaque City

NBA: Nowitzki, Pierce lead All-Star reserves

Dirk Nowitzki

-By Agence France-Presse

Dirk Nowitzki, who led Dallas to the NBA title last season, was selected Friday as an NBA All-Star reserve, along with Boston' Paul Pierce.

Germany's Nowitzki, who was named the Most Valuable Player of the NBA finals last season, has struggled so far in the lockout-shortened campaign and wasn't selected in fan voting as a starter for the mid-season exhibition.

But he was a coach's pick as Western Conference reserve, along with San Antonio's French import Tony Parker, Portland's LaMarcus Aldridge, Memphis's Marc Gasol of Spain, Minnesota's Kevin Love, Steve Nash of Phoenix and Russell Westbrook of Oklahoma City.

Joining Pierce as reserves on the Eastern Conference squad are Miami's Chris Bosh, Chicago's Luol Deng of Britain, Indiana's Roy Hibbert, Philadelphia's Andre Iguodala, Atlanta's Joe Johnson and New Jersey's Deron Williams.

The All-Star starters were named last week, with players from the Los Angeles Lakers and the rival Los Angeles Clippers dominating in the West.

Lakers guard Kobe Bryant and center Andrew Bynum will join Clippers forward Blake Griffin and guard Chris Paul on the team.

The only non-Los Angeles West starter is Kevin Durant of Oklahoma City.

The Miami Heat placed two players on the Eastern Conference team as LeBron James got in at forward and Dwyane Wade was voted in at guard.

Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic was the leading vote-getter overall with 1.60 million votes and will start for the East in front of his home crowd at Amway Center arena.

Also making it in the East is forward Carmelo Anthony of New York and Chicago guard Derrick Rose, who is the reigning league MVP.

The 2012 all-star game will be played in Orlando, Florida, on February 26.

In an interview with Bandila on Thursday, Cruz said that if given a chance he would really like to work with Abad, who was his co-star in the TV series "Tabing Ilog."

Asked to described Abad, Cruz replied: "Forever simple."

In a previous interview, Abad also admitted she also dreams of doing a project with Cruz.

Pacman to train long, hard for Bradley

Manny Pacquiao

-By By Abac Cordero (The Philippine Star)

MANILA, Philippines - Manny Pacquiao isn’t taking Timothy Bradley lightly even if the early fight odds coming out of Las Vegas put the Filipino superstar as the 5-1 favorite.

The odds on the fight not going past nine rounds are pegged at -250, meaning your $100 wins $250 if Bradley stays up on his feet after the said distance.

The odds favoring Pacquiao could or should grow higher as the fight nears.

Bradley is a quality fighter, undefeated in 28 fights. He has faced good guys like Nate Campbell, Devon Alexander, Lamont Peterson and Joel Casamayor but never a hard hitter like Pacquiao.

The reigning WBO welterweight champion from Sarangani said he won’t be surprised if Bradley runs around trying to avoid getting hurt or being knocked out.

“Tatakbo yan (He will run),” he told The STAR.

Still, it doesn’t mean that the congressman from Sarangani, at 33 five years older than Bradley, will not take the fight seriously.

Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, has already aired his concern whether a fighter like Bradley could motivate perhaps the greatest fighter of this generation.

Roach need not worry.

Pacquiao was asked if six to seven weeks of training would be enough against a fighter like Bradley.

“No. I want eight to nine weeks,” he said, adding that the first half of training will be in Baguio City, and the other half in Los Angeles.

“Medyo matagal pahinga kaya dapat mahaba ang training (It’s almost a long rest so we need a longer time to train),” said Pacquiao.

The last time he was up on the ring was against Juan Manuel Marquez last November, a tough, bloody fight that lasted the whole 12 rounds.

It means that by the time Pacquiao climbs the ring to face Bradley it would be three days short of seven months since his last fight.

Bradley is not supposed to be the one in front of Pacquiao in June, but failure to land the big fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Miguel Cotto gave the 28-year-old American the golden opportunity.

Now he needs to stand up before Pacquiao.

The last 3 castaways standing

Mara Yokohama, Stef Prescott and Betong Sumaya: One of them will be the next Sole Survivor
-By By Jerry Donato (The Philippine Star)

MANILA, Philippines - Everyone has his own choice of Akihiro Sato’s successor as Survivor Philippines: Celebrity Doubles Showdown airs its season finale tonight. With KC Montero’s unexpected exit last Monday, Kapuso televiewers are in for a surprise — and a shocker with the results. This only validates that Survivor Philippines is a game of mental and social strategy and not a game of physical strength. Each day could be anybody’s ballgame. Juan dela Cruz can’t simply rely on his gut feel or make an intelligent guess until the votes are read and the winner is named.

But if we ask the Top 3 Stef Prescott, Albert “Betong” Sumaya and Mara Yokohama to pick the Sole Survivor among themselves, Betong is it.

“If I have to choose, Mara knows, it’s Kuya Betong,” says Stef. “I know he really does need (the money). For me, we have proven a lot. It doesn’t mean if you have won Survivor, you are the best. With this competition, we’ve all gotten stuff. We’ve all been seen on TV for the same amount of days; the exposure is still the same. At this point of the game, it’s hard to think of them (the other remaining castaways) as competition because they’ve really grown on you. They are all very close to me and they all have a special place (in me).”

“I will also choose Kuya Albert,” agrees Mara. “From Day One, (the castaways) have expressed how much he needs (the money). Actually, it’s not for him. It’s for the people around him.”

For Betong, his choice is Stef because “I know and I understand what it is like to be a breadwinner. I was touched when I learned that she’s helping her aunt and her family depends on her and how her aunt is grateful to her.”

If money were not the basis in deciding the winner, Stef would surely have a different list of Top 3.

“Looking at it game-wise and being a viewer, it’s not fair. It’s unfair that Mara, me and Betong are in the Top 3,” she shares. “KC, Gino (dela Peña) and Carlo (Gonzalez) should be there if we are talking about strategy or who played the game. It should be the three of them (in the finals).”

According to Mara, winning P3M is just a bonus. “We are all after the title of Sole Survivor. For me, (getting the) title is a big deal… If I choose someone who deserves to win for the title and not for the money, it will be Stef. She was bitten by a snake and she played the game.” But Mara is also quick to say that the cash prize “will change your life.”

On hindsight, Stef says that being able to adjust to people and being a follower will help a castaway stay long in the island. Stef never has had a single decision in all Tribal councils. This is true since she has no solid alliances. Even the person she considers a friend had turned back on her. That makes her Survivor Philippines journey doubly challenging.

“They were all exceeded,” replies Stef when asked if the reality show met her expectations of the game. “What you are expecting is not how it is… It is always worst than what you are expecting.”

“Everything that happens (in Survivor) is not staged,” adds Betong. “(People behind it can’t say) let’s have rain to make (the castaways) struggle. Lahat ng nangyari doon ay hindi mo inaasahan. We don’t have a sense of time and we don’t know what’s happening (outside the island).”

With the strongest contenders out on the Palawan island and the surprise Top 3, Stef concludes, “it just proves that Survivor (Philippines) is a game of chance. You can’t really tell who will stay long in the game.”

Ynna speaks up about the intensifying Nadia-Annabelle legal battle

Ynna deems Annabelle’s fiscal office outbursts ‘weird’

-By Maureen Marie Belmonte (Manila Bulletin)

MANILA, Philippines – After all the denigrating remarks that she and her mother  Nadia Montenegro received from her talent manager Annabelle Rama, Ynna Asistio is convinced that an amicable settlement is not a viable option for both parties.

"Sa totoo lang po, kinakalat niya nga rin po na isang areglo lang kay Mommy or magbigay ng pera, maaayos [na po kami]. Hindi po [totoo ‘yun].

“Sigurado po ako na hindi, hindi maaayos,” Ynna maintained in an interview with PEP posted on Feb. 8.

Such was the case because, according to her, "Ganun na kalaki ‘yung damage na ginawa niya [Annabelle] sa pamilya namin, sa mga kapatid ‘ko, sa nanay ‘ko, para maayos pa.”

But if ever the opposite happens, she says, "Kung maayos man siguro, civil [na lang].”

On theft and meetings

The latest case between the two women is Annabelle’s theft allegation against Nadia for acquiring and selling her personal effects, reportedly amounting to P400,000, without the prior’s consent

According to Ynna, she was particularly hurt with that accusation against her mother.

“…kasi parang para umabot sa ganun na, 'Bakit ka namin nanakawan?'” she was quoted as saying.

The young actress even asked, "Bakit namin gagawin ‘yun na, paano kami nakarating do’n sa warehouse mo nang hindi mo alam?”

For her, there seems to be a “flaw” in Annabelle’s accusation in that it was “too specific” about the items that she “lost” in her warehouse. Note that Annabelle mentioned that among the things Nadia reportedly took from her warehouse were a hospital bed, a couch and some cauldrons.

"Meron siyang mga nabigay na bagay, pero hindi po namin ninakaw ‘yun, binigay niya po ‘yun," she insisted.

Ynna said she regrets being unavailable to her mother during the two previous preliminary investigations on the child abuse and theft case.

"Ang hirap nga po kasi never po akong nakasama sa hearing, lalo na 'pag nagwawala si Tita," she stated.

She, however, reasoned that those absences were merely coincidental as she also happened to have work during those respective days.

On Annabelle’s outbursts

Recall that in those two meetings, Annabelle had also twice blown her top off at the fiscal’s office and shouting expletives towards her nemesis, instances that were both caught on camera.

When asked for her reaction, Ynna said she finds it “weird” that Annabelle is going berserk every hearing.

"Weird lang na magwala siya dahil ‘yung hearing na po iyon, ‘yung pangalawang pagwawala niya, is hearing niya do’n sa kaso niya.

"So, hindi ‘ko alam kung bakit siya nagwala, ‘eh, kaso po niya ‘yun,” enthused the 20-year-old actress.

She continued, "So, parang ewan ko, parang ang hirap lang ng kada may kamera, magwawala siya, 'tapos ‘pag wala naman, okay naman.”

On signing a ‘new contract’

In one of her previous interviews, Annabelle divulged that Ynna, even though still under contract with her, reportedly signed up with the talent management agency Icons Celebrity Marketing.

Ynna, however, quashed the said issue and clarified that she never breached her contract with Annabelle. In fact, no matter how messy things have become between them now, technically, she's still Annabelle’s ward.

Ynna explained that her sole connection to Icons was the fact that it's headed by the former boyfriend of singer-actress Jolina Magdangal, Atty Bebong Muñoz, who also happens to be her cousin.

"He's my first cousin po sa Asistio side, iyon lang,” she quipped.

‘This movie might shock Phil’

Angel Locsin
-By Marinel R. Cruz (Philippine Daily Inquirer)

Actress Angel Locsin doesn’t want rumored sweetheart Phil Younghusband to see her latest movie because it might shock the football star.

“Ces is very liberated,” Angel said of her character in “Unofficially Yours,” a romantic comedy directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina. “While a lot of women will relate to her, I don’t agree with how she handles relationships.”

Not ‘BF’

The movie starts with a one-night stand between the two lead characters, Ces and Macky (John Lloyd Cruz). While Ces is commitment-phobic, Macky is a hopeless romantic.

“Ces doesn’t need a man to make her happy. She thinks having a boyfriend is an unnecessary hassle and that love is a distraction from her primary concern, which is supporting her family,” Angel told the Inquirer. “Unlike her, I don’t believe in casual sex. This girl might shock Phil.”

But Angel still refuses to call Phil her boyfriend. “We don’t put labels on our relationship. We’re dating exclusively, but we’re not yet about to jump to the next level. We’re comfortable where we are now. What happens next, only time will tell.”

Phil started courting Angel in February 2011. “I wasn’t ready for another relationship at the time,” said Angel, who broke up with TV host Luis Manzano in August 2009. “Friends advised me to first get to know Phil better. I discovered that he had many good qualities.”

Angel described the English-Filipino athlete as “very Pinoy.” She added, “He enjoys eating Filipino food, and he values family, like most Filipinos do.”

The actress said she’s lucky to have met Phil. “He respects me and takes care of me. He helped me regain my self-confidence. He’s such a romantic—the type who sends letters and gives me gifts.”

Big deal
She added that Phil was very supportive of her work. “He has our movie’s poster pinned to his car; I don’t even have a copy of that. His BlackBerry Messenger profile picture is the film’s publicity photo. For me, that’s a big deal.”

“Unofficially Yours,” which also features Edgar Allan Guzman, Tetchie Agbayani, Ian de Leon and Edgar Mortiz, opens in more than 100 theaters nationwide on Feb. 15.

Iglesia ni Cristo-led rally cheers up tearful Chief Justice

CORONA BALCONY Impeached Chief Justice Renato Corona (center) waves to supporters (at right) who gathered on Thursday outside the Supreme Court building in Manila to call for a stop to the impeachment trial. At left, protesters call for the opening of Corona’s bank foreign currency account records during Thursday’s rally near the old Film Center at the CCP complex in Pasay City.
-By Jaymee T. Gamil (Philippine Daily Inquirer)

Seven thousand people and not one organizer behind them.
This was what the rowdy crowd that gathered outside the Supreme Court building on Thursday would have the public believe, with picketers saying they were simply “concerned citizens” who happened to come across one another at the same place and time.

As early as 11 a.m. Thursday, droves of people, many of them members of the politically influential Iglesia ni Cristo (INC), started convening outside the Supreme Court compound on Padre Faura Street in Manila.
They carried placards bearing such messages as “No to Impeachment,” “Uphold Judicial Independence,” “Uphold bank secrecy law” and “Stop Malacañang takeover of the judiciary.”

At least 20 placards were obviously from the same source, with red words printed on white tarpaulin sheets. But when asked, the picketers said they were “volunteers” or “individuals” showing support for Chief Justice Renato Corona.

At around 2 p.m. a tearful Corona appeared with his wife Cristina at the tribunal’s balcony and waved to the crowd.
“Walang iiyak! Walang iiyak (No tears)!” the crowd chanted.

No rally permit

Police estimated the crowd at 7,000 by 2:30 p.m.

The area in front of the Supreme Court building is a hot spot for activists lobbying for their causes, but Thursday’s crowd was not from the usual leftist groups, according to Superintendent Ricardo Layug, commander of Manila Police District Station 5 and ground commander of the 100 policemen deployed to guard the rally.

“They’re apparently from different places. They won’t say what group they’re from, and they have no leaders on site. They said they just met here,” Layug said in Filipino.

He said the people in the crowd did not have a rally permit but authorities nevertheless allowed them to hold their mass action.

“This area is usually for mass actions like this, so we allowed them to proceed,” he said.
Officials said there was a police intelligence report claiming that a number of those present were INC members.

At the interreligious prayer service held in the court foreground, many in the crowd were particularly observant and loudly cheered after an INC laywoman said her prayers.

The stretch of Padre Faura Street in front of the high court compound was closed to vehicular traffic. The crowd was densest outside the high court gates, roaring gamely whenever a photographer took pictures.

‘Attendance sheet’

A man wearing a makeshift shirt made of cartolina walked around, soliciting signatures for his “No to impeachment” campaign.

The picketers joked they were signing an “attendance sheet” as they humored Fernando Flor, 41, a salesman from Navotas City.

Flor said he was at the rally and embarking on the signature campaign as his way of helping Corona.

“This is the people’s way to get attention. I hope the government realizes we are tired of the impeachment trial. They should be attending to more important issues such as employment or housing,” he said in Filipino.

Alexander Fajardo, 32, a call center agent from Quezon City, expressed the same sentiment, adding that the picketers were simply “upholding democracy.”

Fajardo, accompanied by a friend, worked the crowd with a megaphone, calling for “unity.”

He said he had just finished his work shift and had headed straight to the Supreme Court on his own volition.

“This group, if there is a group behind this, has good intentions for the country,” he said.

Carmina's camp denies walk out issue with Claudine

Carmina Villaroel
-By ABS-CBNnews.com

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – The camp of television host Carmina Villaroel vehemently denied a report saying she walked out during a commercial shoot with actress Claudine Barretto because of the latter’s “endless demands.”

This issue started after Philippine Daily Inquirer columnist Dolly Ann Carjaval said in her January 29 column that Villaroel almost asked the shoot to “pack up” due to Barretto’s “diva” attitude.

Villaroel clarified that no walkout incident took place during the shoot. She also said she has no plans to ask Carvajal to retract her story.

“Kung talagang pinaninindigan niya ‘yung kanyang reliable source, wala na tayong magagawa. ‘Yung reliable source niya, I guess, is not that reliable,” she said.

Despite the controversy raised by Carvajal’s piece, Villaroel said that she is not mad at the writer.

“If you’re going to ask me if I’m mad at her, hindi," Villaroel said during the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) press conference held on Thursday.

Villaroel, however, said she would have appreciated it if Carvajal came to her first to confirm the report before going public with it.

“Kaibigan ko si Dolly Ann eh, so parang na-ano lang ako sana man lang nag-text [siya to confirm with me],” she said.

Meanwhile, Barretto’s camp has also released a statement on the matter.

In an official statement, Barretto's manager Shirley Kuan said: "There is absolutely no truth to the article written by Dolly Anne dated January 29, 2012 in reference to Carmina walking out of a shoot.”

Kuan added that it has been three years since Villaroel and Barretto worked together for an endorsement.

“Dolly Anne may well serve her readers by refraining from reporting an imagined story as the truth. Her attention was called through a letter (refuting her story) from Ace Saatchi, the ad agency for Lactum. Carmina has completely and flatly denied the story as well,” she said.

According to Kuan, she is not expecting a comment from Barretto herself about the issue as the actress is currently in Europe with her husband.

Kuan said she is speaking now to let the public know what the real story is.

“I just want to inform the public what is the truth so they may know. I am speaking in the interest of correcting the lies that Dolly Ann may have sown, knowing that, a lie which goes uncorrected soon becomes the truth,” she said. – from a report by Ginger Conejero, ABS-CBN News

PBB's Wendy Tabusalla chooses boyfriend over housemate

Wendy Tabusalla

-By ABS-CBNnews.com

MANILA, Philippines - After admitting that she has special feelings for fellow housemate Carlo, ex-housemate Wendy Tabusalla of "Pinoy Big Brother Unlimited" said she is now back in the arms of her real-life sweetheart Lance.

Ater getting evicted from the PBB house last Saturday, Tabusalla found out that Lance had almost gone out of the country because he could no longer bear his girlfriend's trivial flirting with Carlo which had raised many eyebrows.

Tabusalla said she already apologized to Lance for what she did.

“I have already apologized to him. I wasn’t so careful with what I said and did because I was becoming more and more comfortable inside the house. Little did I know that Lance took all the negative criticisms about me,” Tabusalka said.

While the fling generated hype for the reality show, Tabusalla revealed that she has yet to develop actual feelings for Carlo, and that her physical separation from Lance only made their relationship stronger.

In fact, she feels grateful to PBB for drawing Lance and her parents closer as both parties had been consoling each other when they worried about her.

“Lance fought for me, and my parents saw that he really cared for me when he faced the consequences of my PBB stint. Before I entered the house, I was unsure if they would ever hit it off. I felt so happy when my mom and Lance both welcomed me in the outside world when I got evicted,” she said.

Known for her sincerity and frankness, Tabusalla is one of the most recognizable personalities in PBB’s present season.

Her popularity among viewers proved to be undeniable. Even when she was repeatedly nominated week after week, she would score a high percentage of votes that saved her from eviction. She even considered the nominations a chance to prove herself to her housemates, family, and the public.

“It turned out to be an opportunity for me to step up and prove my detractors wrong. I do not regret anything; I went through all the tasks without quitting,” she said.

Now that her stay inside the PBB house is over, the ramp model is dreaming anew of becoming a beauty queen and be teamed up with her showbiz crush Piolo Pascual.

She also intends to enter showbiz and wants to build a successful career like that of her idol, PBB host Toni Gonzaga, whom Tabusalla admires for the her singing, hosting, and acting prowess.

“She can do anything. It all seems so natural to her,” Tabusalla said.

Tabusalla was often referred to as the princess of the PBB house, but the program’s avid spectators have come to know her as a spoiled brat who is brave enough to express and stand up for what she truly feels.

As she faces new challenges outside of the PBB house, she brings with her the most important lesson she learned as a housemate: patience.

“Big Brother teaches the housemates to be persistent. The old Tabusalla would immediately back out on the tasks, but I carried on,” she said.
