Kris willing to do kissing scenes with Robin

-By ABS-CBNnews.com

MANILA, Philippines - Actress and television host Kris Aquino said she is now open to take on intimate scenes for her upcoming television series “Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw”.

Since her marriage to star cager James Yap is officially annulled, Aquino announced during the story conference of her upcoming show that she is now free to do kissing and love scenes.

“Puwede nang makipaghalikan ngayon,” she said.

In response to her “Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw” co-star Robin Padilla’s question whether she’s willing to have a torrid kissing scene with him, Aquino said, “Why not?”

“Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw” is an action-packed family drama directed by Malou Sevilla and Joyce Bernal.

Aside from Aquino and Padilla, actress Anne Curtis and child star Xyriel Manabat will also be a part of the show’s main cast.

They will start taping for this project on February 21.

Anne thrilled to work with Kris, Robin

-By ABS-CBNnews.com

MANILA, Philippines - Actress and television host Anne Curtis expressed her thrill to be part of the upcoming ABS-CBN television series “Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw”.

In an interview after the show’s story conference held on Thursday, Curtis said she feels truly blessed to be working alongside renowned showbiz personalities in this new project.

“Nakaka-excite din kasi to be able to work with Ms. Kris Aquino and of course Robin Padilla,” she said.

“Parang I feel so blessed and humbled na I was given this opportunity, kaya talagang kahit na super segue, kahit gaano kaaga, kahit gaano ka-late pa ito matapos, talagang ka-career-in ko,” she added.

“Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw” is a family drama mixed with a hint of action and romance.

It is under the direction of Malou Sevilla and Joyce Bernal.

The show’s cast and crew are set to start taping for the project on February 21.

Meanwhile, Curtis will be turning 27 on February 17.

Asked about her plans for her upcoming birthday, she answered, “It will depend kasi magla-launch pa lang 'yung ‘It’s Showtime’, baka kailangan kong i-devote sa ‘It’s Showtime’ ‘yung birthday ko.”

Grace Lee asks for time, space to get to know PNoy

-By Mario Dumaual, ABS-CBNnews.com

MANILA, Philippines - Korean television and radio personality Grace Lee is already gearing up for the birthday of President Benigno Aquino III, who turns 52 on February 8.

"I'm brewing something up, and surprise na lang," Lee told ABS-CBN News in an exclusive interview on Thursday.

"Love? Pwede rin," she said, laughing.

One day after Aquino admitted that he and Lee are seeing each other, the 29-year-old Korean finally agreed to an interview on her budding romance with the bachelor president.

Lee was gracious enough to answer questions after her private meeting with talent manager Arnold Vegafria.

"We are dating. We are starting, so sana everyone will give us time and space to get to know each other more," Lee told ABS-CBN's Mario Dumaual.

She said the first time she met Aquino was during the inauguration of the Korea Electric Power Corp. power plant in Cebu in June last year.

Lee was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea and moved to the Philippines when she was 10 because of her father's business. She finished her high school at St. Paul's College in Pasig City, where she had studied since Grade 3. She studied Interdisciplinary Studies, Communication Arts and Chinese Studies at the Ateneo de Manila University.

Lee actually got to work at MalacaƱang as an official interpreter in 2005 but she said she never thought that she would one day meet Aquino.

"To be liked by a man who leads the country is very flattering," Lee said. "He's such a gentleman. When he acknowledged it, I think that was out of respect for me."

Lee's manager, Vegafria, said he expects a big change in the life of his talent.

"It is a serious concern. I hope the public will give them space," he said.

Lee, meanwhile, laughed off rumors that Aquino already proposed marriage.

But wherever this relationship may lead, Lee said she is ready for the effects this will have on her life, as well as her family.

"The age gap and racial differences do not matter," she said. "Well, at least whatever we have right now will serve as an inspiration to a lot of people out there."

Pedophilia cases of clerics declining in number — Vatican prosecutor

VATICAN CITY  - The Vatican's top anti-abuse prosecutor said Thursday that the number of reported pedophilia cases involving clerics was "declining" but had reached "alarming" levels in the rest of society.

Maltese bishop Charles Scicluna of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith also said that a major international conference on the abuse scandals in Rome next week showed the Church's willingness to respond "with determination".

Speaking in an interview with the Italian website Vatican Insider, Scicluna said: "In churches where a code of silence was imposed for a long time, the number of reported cases reached a peak and is now gradually declining."

"The recent data on a global level... in civil society is truly alarming," said the Vatican's "Promoter of Justice", a type of prosecutor, giving as an example the increase in cases of child abuse reported to a hotline in Italy.

Scicluna said participants at next week's conference -- including representatives of 110 national bishops' conferences and the leaders of 30 religious orders -- had been advised to meet with victims before attending.

Psychologists, experts and victims will also be taking part at the conference entitled "Towards Healing and Renewal" and hosted by the Vatican's Gregorian University, which has been under preparation since June.

The Catholic Church has been badly shaken by thousands of paedophilia scandals in Europe and the United States, many of them dating back decades.

Thousands of clergy took part in the abuse of children and the hierarchy often tried to cover up the scandals by simply transferring guilty priests. — Agence France Presse

Regine Grants Archuleta's Wish, Drops By Singer's Recording

-By KAYE VILLAGOMEZ (www.mb.com.ph)

MANILA, Philippines — Regine Velasquez made sure she flattered David Archuleta, a self-confessed Songbird fan, by meeting up with the “American Idol” runner-up before he left for the US.

Together with husband Ogie Alcasid, whose “Nandito Ako” is covered by Archuleta for a TV5 series’ theme, Regine told Bulletin Entertainment how the international singer handled the surprise.

“Nakakatuwa at nakakaliw ang reaction ni David. He was really happy to see us at parang hindi s’ya makapaniwala when we visited him (Jan. 29) at a studio in Ortigas,” Regine said, Jan. 30, in a media huddle at El Buono Pizza restaurant in Quezon City for the concert “Mr. & Mrs. A” set Feb. 14 at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Apparently, David has always been a fan who first appreciated Regine through her version of Mariah Carey’s “Butterfly” on YouTube. The young pop singer went on to research more about the Pinay belter and has since expressed wanting to meet Regine when he visits the Philippines.

“Eh, kasi gusto niya daw kami ma-meet. Parang ganun. Kinuwento niya sa akin when he was 16 daw, first time niyang nakita ako sa Internet, sa YouTube, parang isa ako sa parang nasa unahan featured artist so klinik niya ako and I was singing ‘Butterfly.’ Ever since daw, he kept on playing it paulit-ulit daw niyang pinapakinggan yung version ko hanggang nag-research na siya, na kay Mariah Carey nga yun, ‘tapos paulit-ulit din niyang pinakinggan yung kay Mariah hanggang sa naging favorite daw niya yung ‘Butterfly,’” Regine shared.

An interested David watched more Regine videos. “‘Tapos, he kept watching daw other videos of mine. Even before ‘Idol,’ natutuwa na daw siya sa akin. Actually, nung nakita namin siya, sobra siyang excited, parang na-shock siya! Tuwang-tuwa kami sa excitement nya at hiyang-hiya naman s’ya sa’min but he has such a nice voice,” she added.

David follows Regine’s music, acting and personal life that he asked for baby Nate. “Sabi niya, ‘Yeah I know [you recently gave birth] where’s the baby?’ ‘Tapos ipinakita ko yung pictures; mahiyain siya, ang cute-cute niya! He looked stunned when we got there.”

Since David interpreted Ogie’s song, they jammed the OPM classic and “Wherever You Are.”

Regine praised David’s take on “Nandito Ako.”

“Si David, hiyang-hiya siya kasi siyempre, original si Ogie. Tuwang-tuwa siya at ang ganda ng version niya, parang Pinoy. Sabi ko sa kanya, ‘Who taught you how to sing in Filipino.’ Kasi ang ganda ng pronunciation niya ng Tagalog. Sabi nung RM [road manager] niya, ‘No one, no one taught him.’ Meron daw siyang coach when he was going to record it, pero konting-konti lang yung kinorek. Pinakinggan lang daw niya nang pinakinggan yung original. Ang galing!”

David also asked the couple for acting tips. “Nakakatuwa nga, eh, kasi he also knows na Ogie and I are actors here. So, nanghihingi siya ng advice kung paano bang maging ano, kasi sabi niya, parang siya daw, self-conscious siya, parang hindi niya iisipin na umarte. Pero ngayon daw, na-e-enjoy na niya.”

In Regine’s forthcoming show with Ogie, she joked about the show being just another Valentine concert. “Wala lang, wala namang difference itong show na ito sa iba, kantahan din naman yun!”

Then, she went serious: “First of all, we haven’t been working in a concert together in a long while, after nag-asawa kami. Yung last concert namin, hindi pa kami umaaamin nun, e, di ba? Yung ‘Songbird and the Songwriter’ back in 2004 so ang tagal na. Exciting ngayon, kasi nga, it was my idea to do a concert talaga. Yung husband ko, sabi niya, ‘Are you sure? Kasi kakapanganak mo pa lang.’ Sabi ko, ‘But I want to talaga kasi I miss it.’ That’s the whole idea, na after giving birth, ‘tapos mag-asawa na kami, we have a child, parang yun ang kaibahan, kasi it’s exciting and then we’re working together na mas personal ngayon, eh, unlike before yung concert namin, parang... wala lang.

“I hope that our audience will appreciate it kasi, yun na nga, mas makikita nila yung other side of Ogie and myself.”

The concert will have Baby Nate in a special number. Guests include Vice Ganda, Kyla, Erik Santos, Marcelito Pomoy, Angeline Quinto. When asked how Regine, also the show’s co-producer arrived at such a lineup, she said, “Sila yung hot these days.”

“Mr. & Mrs. A” is for the benefit of PGH’s Medical Social Service Outreach Program for cancer-stricken kids.

Bea, Gabby Get Their Build-Up Breaks

-By NESTOR CUARTERO (www.mb.com.ph)

MANILA, Philippines — Never Too Late: The time has come at last for Gabby Eigenmann, one of two sons by Mark Gil (the other being Sid Lucero) working in show business, to shine.

Sidelined to character roles throughout his relatively young career, Gabby has finally been blessed with a lead role in “Broken Vow,” GMA’s afternoon teleserye set to premiere on Feb. 6, Monday. It has been a long wait, Gabby admits, but one that has been worth it.

It might have helped that just some weeks ago, Gabby won a best supporting actor award from the Entertainment Press Society for his work in “Munting Heredera.”

The budding thespian impressed viewers with his ruthless performance as the villain in the said soap opera.

Back in the ’80s when he was but a teen, Gabby passed up a chance to be built up as a matinee idol by way of Regal Films’ “Gwapings.” He expresses no regrets at the lost opportunity, focused as he was on his schooling then.

In an interview, he said it’s probably best that he started an acting career when he was older and a bit more mature. His career may have fizzled out fast, anyway.

While network has promoted Gabby to lead status, he must, for his part, work on his physique to better look the part. He’s a bit overweight, a view that doesn’t look good on a leading man.

More Breaks Coming: Bianca King gets to follow up her growing popularity as a lead actress by starring in her second full-length teleserye, “Broken Vow” opposite Gabby and another male lead potential, Luis Alandy.

Earlier, GMA Network launched Bianca as the lead star in “Sinner or Saint.” While both teleseryes are aired in the afternoon block, they are a perfect preparation for greater opportunities yet to come.

Another actor enjoying graduation from support to lead is Luis Alandy. GMA’s efforts to assign lead roles to actors within their reach speak of a notable lack in lead stars within the network and elsewhere. Building up stars has to start somewhere and must be continued with the regularity of tears falling with every sampalan in the teleseryes they star in.

Broken Vow” is the story of – as usual – a woman scorned by love. The first man (Gabby) dumps her, a second man (Alandy) comforts her, until the first man resurfaces to claim her back. How wonderful it is to be on teleseryes, ’no?

Bea B. Gets it, too: The quest to build up more stars around GMA in 2012 has similarly reached teen actress

Bea Binene, who lands the title role in another new series, “Alice Bungisngis.”

After playing second lead to Barbie Forteza in “Tweens” and other TV projects, Bea has come into her own as lead. She plays a teenage witch, a good one, in “Alice B.”

The project propels Bea Binene in the lighter, easy-to-digest mode of romantic comedy laced with a dash of fantasy. The format suits her best as a teenage star, one that can endear her to fans and a wider audience.

Bea is paired opposite Derrick Monasterio, another star on the build-up platform, and constant partner Jake Vargas in “Alice Bungisngis.” The laughter starts also on Feb. 6.

As Iza Moves Networks, She Also Admits Dating Anew

-By JECELYN V. MACAHINDOG (www.mb.com.ph)

MANILA, Philippines — Fresh from a network transfer to challenge herself, Iza Calzado seemed to be starting a whole new life – and love – as well.

Being single for quite some time, Iza admitted that he is currently dating someone. The actress-host ended her almost three-year relationship with businessman Atticus King last year.

“I’m dating. Wala pa namang pumipilang iba. Mayroon akong friend ngayon na dini-date madalas, yun,” said the newest kapamilya star in a recent interview with “KrisTV.”

“Wala pang label sa ngayon, mas magandang ganoon na lang muna siguro… Iba ngayon, parang mas formal na ngayon, parang mas formal na yung dating,” Iza added.

The upcoming “The Biggest Loser: Pinoy Edition” host, without spilling further details on her special someone, said that they are both athletic.

‘MMK’ Dream

As the newest ABS-CBN talent, Iza is thrilled to fulfill her dream to star in the network’s longest running drama anthology “Maala-ala Mo Kaya (MMK).”

“Yes. This February, I think,” she said.

As one of GMA-7’s prime stars, Iza’s departure to leave her home network of 10 years in favor of rival network ABS-CBN shocked many. She recently signed a three-year contract with the Bohol network.

According to Iza, her late father, choreographer-director Lito Calzado, urged her to transfer.

“Matagal na kasi namin itong pinag-uusapan ng father ko [at] ng manager ko si Noel Ferrer. It has been on my mind for a long time. I wonder what it’s like. Nag-start doon especially I worked with Star Cinema ‘yung movie na ‘Milan’ in 2004. Sabi ko, ‘paano kaya?’ Tapos iniisip ko ano kaya ang feeling ng mag-‘Maalaala Mo Kaya?’ Laging ganoon yung question.

“Then when my dad passed away when I received a posthumous award for him sa Star Awards biglang sabi ni Tita Maribeth Bichara, ‘you know your dad wanted you to transfer to channel 2.’ Tapos nagulat ako, nandoon kasi si Ma’am Charo Santos-Concio at si Tita Cory Vidanes. Sabi ko there’s just, sign talaga. Tapos nag-isip ako nang nag-isip,” Iza shared.

The award-winning actress recalled that she even went to Dubai to clear her mind.

“Nag-isip ako at pagbalik ko sabi ko sa manager ko ‘ano na ang gagawin natin ngayon? Yung sa 7 do we meet with them?’ Tapos sabi niya, ‘do you want to hear what ABS-CBN want to offer you or if they are even interested?’ So sabi ko, ‘you know what, it’s about time I should make an informed decision, I should know my options at least.’ Hindi yung sige nang sige nang hindi man lang kino-consider what’s there. After 10 years, I think tama naman din na tingnan ko kung ano ang nasa ibang parte ng mundo kumbaga,” Iza explained.

Iza said on Sunday’s “The Buzz” upon her new home’s welcome, “Gusto ko talaga ng bagong adventure. Gusto kong mag-evolve, gusto kong matuto.”

A soap opera also awaits Iza with director Wenn V. Deramas at the helm.
